Its important for museum buildings to be well-maintained because they are essential for keeping the priceless cultural treasures they contain safe and secure. As this building approaches its 100 anniversary in 2012, it is more essential than ever for us to not only appreciate its beauty, but to remember that it needs regular care and feeding. Two days ago, we were reminded of how fragile this grand old lady of almost 100 is when two water coils failed raining water down upon our offices, galleries and public spaces. We’ve had to close the “Creating the New Century” show early to protect the art but we look forward now to getting the galleries dried out, cleaned up and ready to accept our Dale Chihuly Venetians show that opens in mid-December. We’ll see everyone then!
