About the Masks Project
For twelve years Masks has been FCMOA’s signature event. Masks offers a highly popular exhibition of community art while raising money to support the museum’s mission at the same time. Each year has been an exciting journey as the unadorned ceramic forms leave the museum and return as an amazing collection of unique masks. Last year, Masks surpassed many of its goals including more than 4,000 visitors to the museum during the 30-day exhibit.
This year over 200 artists have applied their varied talents to creating works of art that will comprise our 2016 exhibition. Since 2003 the Masks Project has attracted both professional artists, whose creativity is their economic main stay and recreational artists, who respond to their need to express their creativeness in ingenious styles. The result is an exhibition of 200 pieces of unconventional art opening during the First Friday Gallery Walk, April 1, 2016.
The Masks Project encompasses the popular exhibition, the celebratory Masks Grand Gala, and a tribute to the 2016 Honorary Chair, Michael Powers. These components provide a significant portion of the Museum’s operating budget as well as an engaging community art event.
