Welcome to The World of Jan Brett, a fun and educational exhibition featuring original artwork from the stories of the beloved children’s author/illustrator. 59 original paintings from bestselling books set the theme of the exhibit and take you on a journey around the world to learn about the places and cultures that Jan Brett gets her inspiration. From tropical rainforests to Arctic igloos, your imagination will fly away into The World of Jan Brett.
Jan Brett, considered one of G.P. Putnam’s Sons brightest stars, is renowned for her picture books that annually climb to the top of the best-seller list. The admired children’s author/illustrator decided as a child that she wanted to be an illustrator. “I remember the special quiet of rainy days, when I felt that I could enter the pages of beautiful picture books.” Now, Brett tries to re-create that feeling in her own stories. Her highly detailed paintings and illustrative borders, rich in cultural narration from the various locales her books explore have received international attention and recognition.
“A picture is never finished until I feel I can walk into a page.” Jan Brett
This exhibition is organized and traveled by the Oshkosh Public Museum, Oshkosh, WI.
